Canada's physical geography is highly varied, with mountainous regions, vast plains, a massive shield area, and vast bodies of water. Canadian landforms range from the rugged Western Cordillera to the rolling Interior Plains, and from the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Lowlands to the Arctic Archipelago. Notable features include the Canadian Shield, a vast geological region with a thin layer of soil. The Canadian coastline includes numerous islands and inlets and is bordered by both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
The Western Cordillera is a mountainous region characterized by the Canadian Rockies, Saint Elias Mountains, and Coast Mountains. The Interior Plains are extensive flatlands extending from the United States border towards the Canadian Shield. The Canadian Shield is a large, rocky region covering much of northern and central Canada.
